The Sahara is a replacement pick-up body, combined with a roll cage and side hinged tailgate with spare wheel mounting. The Sahara has a unique one-piece front, which hinges forwards to allow superb engine access. The panels are manufactured from galvanised steel or alloy. The roll cage is manufactured from 48mm Motor Sport Association approved tube. The wheel arches are positioned to accommodate large 33 x 12.50 x 15 tyres, without the need for a suspension lift or wheel spacers. This solves the associated problems and expense whilst introducing extra ground clearance, width and enabling a lower centre of gravity.
The Sahara has been designed for use without doors providing simplicity, strength, driving in deep water and excellent visibility in off-road use. It features a massive sill box-section complete with waist height tube and vertical bracing all integrated within the roll cage offering incredible side impact protection. However, lift-off locking doors with opening windows are available to aid security and keep the weather out.
The rotten or damaged Discovery body is removed leaving a complete rolling chassis with front bulkhead and seats all undisturbed. Apart from repositioning the battery it remains driveable throughout the conversion. The new Sahara body and roll cage bolts onto the original chassis making a very rigid structure. The front section pivots from the Discovery chassis bumper mounts. Full details of this straightforward conversion are provided in the Sahara assembly manual. This simple conversion says goodbye to those rotten sills, rear floor, wheel arches and mouldy doors and combines the best of both worlds with a virtually rot proof solid body complete with superb running gear of the Discovery.
With recent over complicated and unreliable soft roaders on the market, the new NCF Sahara is the way forward to owning a reliable and uncomplicated proper off roader. As well as offering off road style and comfort, in everyday use the Sahara is a durable, safe and versatile vehicle, capable of carrying, towing and off roading. With cheap readily available spares, the Sahara will become a serviceable vehicle for many years. As with all NCF vehicles, good quality workmanship can be assured, gained from over 30 years experience and expertise.
Registration of the Sahara is simple as it retains the original unmodified Discovery chassis and running gear. It is important that an appointment is made with your Local Vehicle Licensing office (LVLO) to arrange an inspection of your completed Sahara to ensure your chassis and engine number correspond to your Logbook. Following inspection, the LVLO will then change your vehicle identity, but you will retain your original registration plate and you will receive a new logbook from DVLA. The Sahara can then be taken for a standard MOT. Insurance is best obtained from a specialist broker for converted vehicles and often the Sahara will be less to insure than the donor.
