Traka 4x4 Kit-Car (above price is for chassis only) The Traka 4x4 is based on the 100 inch wheelbase Range Rover Classic. These are now readily available with a solid chassis, rotting bodies and serviceable running gear for under £1000.
The Traka has been designed for serious off-road performance with its lightweight body, minimum overhangs, massive 33 x 12.50 x 15 tyres, long travel coil springs giving superb ride and axle articulation, powerful lightweight Rover V8 with four wheel drive, Iow ratio box, centre diff-Iock coupled with loads of ground clearance makes a recipe for outstanding off-road ability. With the Traka's macho good looks and power it is great fun on the road too.
The Traka features a soft top; lift off doors and four seats to make a practical vehicle as well as being more than capable for towing your boat, caravan or horsebox etc.
The full roll cage is manufactured from 48mm BS 1387 'Motor Sport Association' approved tube. The whole front end with integral bull bar, galvanised steel bonnet and inner wings is designed to pivot forwards to allow superb engine access. This all bolts onto the Range Rover chassis complete with the galvanized side panels galvanised inner rear arches and plastic mudguards. The engine, gearbox and suspension etc. is all left undisturbed attached to the chassis. The front bulkhead complete with the dash, heater, wiring, pedals, wipers and steering etc. is also all left as it was in the Range Rover saving a lot of work. Even the front seats and floor can be left in place. If you require rear seats we recommend a pair from the rear of a Suzuki SJ Jeep, which can be fitted complete with seat belts. A set of waterproof seat covers can be fitted to these to match the front seats. Alternatively bucket seats could be used with four point harnesses. The standard Range Rover fold down rear seat is too wide to use, as the Traka wheel arches are larger to accommodate the 33 x 12.50 x 15 tyres on full axle articulation without any suspension modification.
Full details are given in the Traka assembly manual, but as can be seen this is a very straightforward and simple conversion. As the Traka uses the original Range Rover chassis it is exempt from the Single Vehicle Approval Test, therefore a standard MOT, road tax and insurance is only required to use the Traka on the road. (Competitive insurance quotes can be obtained from specialist insurance companies.
